Might have a major problem need advice
#1
I recently bought a set of asp underdrive pulleys for my 01 GMC Sierra. I have been through the belt that came with the pulleys and also a gator back from autozone. The alternator pulley is squeeling like a stuck pig and shaving some of the belt also.(fine plastic shavings by alternator)
Upon inspection I noticed that the power steering pulley looked a little out of line with the alternator pulley.( which would cause the shaving) I can move the power steering pulley to and from the front of the truck about 1/16 or less. I'm thinking that this might be my problem. Can anyone else move their pulley like this??
This squeeling is getting embarassing!

Squealing like a pig you say....wasn't that line in a movie or something.

I'll check after a little bit about the pulley and get back with ya. I'm thinking there shouldn't be much play back and forth in the pulley though.

So it started this after you installed the ASPs? If so you may not have pulled the crank pully all the way in which is causing it to wobble. This wobble could have caused your powersteering pully to get loose on the shaft causing the belt(s) to rub on the edges of the indedted pullys.
Look on your waterpump pully and see if the paint is rubbed off wider than the actuall width of the belt. If so you may need to tighten you crank pully down all the way.
