Default Mass airflow sensor

I have a 2k short box, sport bed silverado with a 5.3. Can I just cut out the screen on my MAFS? With this screw anything up? I see MAFS in catalogs for $300 +. They look like they just cut the screen off. They claim 10 to 15 hp. Is that about right or is it a bunch of BS? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The aftermarket mafs are recalibrated and will make more power for a relatively STOCK truck. The granatelli leaned my truck out too much with my mods so I took it off. I also pulled the screen off and noticed nothing.

Pretty much the same as what white53gmc said. The GMS leaned me to far out also and I nooticed litle if any when I descreened the stocker. i have heard of very very few people that like the GMS and I have seen no-one prove their claims. For under $200 you can get a MAFT and in conjunction with ATAP, you can set your MAS to suit your needs.
