Default ls1 fans draw assloads of power

So I need a new alternator. My question is, which one? The 145A or should I get a 160A off of a police intercepted tahoe?

The only thing stopping me from the 160A is that I will have to change out all my wires to thicker ones so the alt. wont melt the wires and blow up my truck lol.

Let me know what you guys think

I gather my '01 Suburban came with the 145A (based on what I've read here), and I have ZERO problems with voltage draw from the fans.

As for upgrading your wires, it wouldn't even be that much. A larger ground and a larger primary will only set you back an additional $40 and that is including a fancy gold plated fuse block and 200A fuse

the 160 amp won't melt any wires unless you're useing that much juice more than intermittently. If you can get it for the same price and with the same warranty, I'd go for the 160

My stock alternator runs them just fine too.

I was wondering though, has anyone tried to hook up one of those 1 farad capacitors to stop the dimming problem?
