Default LQ9 Life Expectancy

Just curious how much life my old LQ9 still has in her. The clock is sitting on 113,xxx right now and will be steadily going up as the truck is my DD. Just installed a P1sc a couple of months ago and am now about to install a cam. Ill be running around 10-12psi on a 3.4 pulley. Other than the cam/springs/rods going in this weekend the motor is completely stock from intake to oil pan. I know I need to start planning what to do for a motor before this one finally bites the dust for good but I need to get an idea of how much longer I really have before Ill need to replace it.

I have stock trucks come through the shop that have been beat to **** with 200-300 K on them still ticking right along. It all depends on basic care. Do your mods then drive it until she cries uncle.

if the truck was still stock without mods id have no worries. but on a stock motor running high boost and a cam i feel like shes a ticking time bomb waiting to go boom on me. when i bought the truck it had 72,xxx miles on it and had been driven by an older man all its life and maintained regularly by the dealer. Since I have owned it it has seen much harder driving habits but still well maintained by myself on a regular basis.

It's real hard to say how long it will last. I'll just say that as long as you have a good tune and maintain the engine along with it's aftermarket parts, it will probably last north of 150k miles.

For now, just quit worrying and enjoy it. 113k isn't much, my truck has 100k+(could be 200k+, lol) and i'm more worried about the 60E breaking than the engine.

x2...I have 185k on the clock and I'm just doing a rebuild. I'm not worried about it breaking, but I just figured I'd do it with my upgrades. I've driven mine like a ***** since I bought it off the Chevy lot in 04. I do keep my regular maintenance up. I'd have waited to at least 200k before I did my rebuild. I've seen these motors make 225k without even a rebuild. Of course the tranny goes out, I've replaced mine once already, but the motor you shouldn't worry about. Boosted motors do need more maintenance, but as long as you keep it current you will be a-ok.

10-12 psi is NOT high boost, and 116K is NOT high mileage, on these LS series engines. That's assuming that they are, and have been, properly maintained.

Maintenance is important.. I wouldn't sweat it. These engines are some tuff SOB's. A higher mile engine has been stressed( not wore out) Drive on brotha.. I randomly drop the pan, check inside just for ***** and giggles.. No metal in the oil is always a good thing

thanks for setting my mind at ease a little bit guys. I have faith in my tranny with my current mods. im aware that the 60/65e's arent great but im good friends with the guy that built my trans and i trust his work. looks like ill keep flogging the **** out of the poor LQ9 till it gives and start saving now for a forged 370 build or even a 408, who knows where ill be a year from now with the truck but once its paid off it will be getting some major makeovers. thanks again fellas

Go 370 or 390(AES) with FI, and get a 4L80E in the wings. Sooner than later.....
