like what was said above lq4 and lq9 aluminum 72cc, the ls6 heads have 64cc.

I believe the difference in the lq4 and q9 is the casting, one is marked with a triangle denoting a semi-permanent mold casting supposed to be good for 5-7 more hp over the other cast. Which is which Im not shure just look for a triangle

LQ9 heads for 2003 == 317. Pretty sure for 2004 too.

Hasnt this topic been done before. A 317 is a 317. Tuning, flat tops, beefier rods. Only diff on LQ9.

Nearest I can tell the 035 casting is identical to the 317. The only visual difference I could see was the 035 head was a smoother finished casting in the ports and external surfaces. It seems like the relationship between the 035 and 317 castings is much the same as the 241 and 853 LS1 heads. The main differences are surface finish related rather than port core or chamber differences. All bolt holes and valve guide locations are the same.

Hope this helps.

Richard

Yes, but I thought I found some new info stating the 035 (LQ9) heads are better than the 317.

fwiw, I've heard the same thing about the different casting techniques.

I would take what Richard from West Coast Racing Cylinder Heads said as nuggets of gold, or, very good info
Sounds like the 035's are left with smoother surfaces, which to me, would translate into potential better flow, and possibly a slight atvantage over the 317 castings in terms of power output, stock

From what I had read the 035 and 317 just had different casting methods.

The only difference is casting techniques...or to put it simply..One is pound of gold nuggets, the other is a pound of gold dust...same same either way..
