LQ4, LQ9 What's the Diff
#11
Thanks Tydiver!! I found a LQ9 for sale on this forum and 2 others by searching other sites. I have a couple posts saved from a gentleman that all ready swapped a stroked LS1 into a Impala SS, including the info on how to get the newer PCM to talk with the stock Imp dash and such.

that book is very inaccurate. with the cc's should be around 69cc for the lq4 and lq9 (both heads are the same) and what it will drop a 5.7 CR actually will be about 9.7:1

smokinhawk beat me to that one. Chris Endres who wrote that book and a similar article in the GM High Tech Performance Magazine has the facts wrong. I assume he didn't take into account the fact that the LQ4 has dished pistons when he wrote his article. Anyway, the LQ4 and LQ9 both have the same heads with the same chamber volume. My LQ9 Silverado SS has head casting 317 heads. I had an 03 escalade LQ9 with 317 heads, and I have a set of 317 heads off a LQ4 Denali - two different motors, both with same head.

I've looked at all the Escalades I could find, and haven't seen an 035 head yet. I asked everyone on the silverado ss site, and every reply was 317. I assume that there is an 035 head, as Patriot uses them for their cores, but I haven't found one yet.
The 317 heads have the same D shaped exhaust ports as the LS6 heads.
