Default LQ4 or LQ9?

I just bought a low mileage 6L engine from a wrecked truck (I beleive a 2003). I'm not sure if it's an LQ4 or LQ9. Any way to tell from just looking at the engine?

Thanks.. Pierre

look at the VIN of the truck. U is LQ4. but if you don't have the truck, .....
Do you know what type of truck it was?
The only other way to my knowing it look at the pistons or rods.

If you have access to a bore-scope, you can look through a spark plug hole and look at the top of a piston...if it's dished it's an LQ4, if flat top, LQ9

I beleive the truck was a 2002 or 2003 Denali. The engine has provisions for oil cooler, not sure if they all had that.

I believe the Denali didn't get the lq9 until 2004 or 2005.

THe only Denali ever to get a lq9 was the new 2005 Crew cabs... All others including the suv's, the ext cab Denali's, and the C3 all had the lq4... dispite the hp ratings of 325-335
