OK sounds good, I'll do a cam. Can yall verify those pistons and rods will work with my 01 lq4 crank. I dont know if I can pick the proper cam before doing the 4l80e swap, and I won't be doing that swap for a while. If i ruin the 4l60e sooo be it. Maybe I just cam it when the new tranny is going in?

It's significantly easier to do the cam with the motor out obviously, so if you're going to do it, do it now. Spec it for the whole setup ie: 80e/higher compression 6.0. With that in mind though, you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. Builds easily turn from simple motor swap to $20k build. Set your sights on a goal and remember that these guys are not spending their money, they're spending yours. Keep it realistic and it'll get done.

Ok, I was worried it would drive like a dog or something with a cam spec for a different tranny and stall, but hell realistically I need to get my 4l60e out of it as soon as I can. That way its still worth money when it comes out lol. Yah I won't be spending that much. Its a full rebuild but I'm keeping factory crank and just got those LS2 pistons and rods for $268. I was worried I was going to spend a lot more in the bottom end, so I feel good about that.

Reading through the forums, I am seeing the Cam suggested quite a bit. BTR TRUCK STAGE II CAM Specs are 212/218 .553/.553 113+2.
Who all thinks this would be a good upgrade?

Ive already spent mine.... Hence the reason i am saying go ahead and do it once and be done with it!!! But make sure you get the cam you want/need the first time around and Not have to go back in and spend money on another cam down the road....
I would think in a 6.0 the stage 3 or 4 would be a better choice in a truck with your specs, unless you decide to go with the l92 heads.... Then you need to look into the ls3 style cams.
The rods/pistons should be a direct bolt in, the cranks if memory serves have the same casting number just different reluctors

I second going ahead and doing a cam while the motor is out. Its a whole lot easier that way. That BTR cam would be a good place to start and should be ok with the factory converter, but if you use a low stall aftermarket one (in the 2400-2600) range it will help 60ft tremendously.

If you are dead set on keeping the 4l60 in there temporarily a 4.2 trailblazer converter will get you a decently higher stall and not be a $4-500 tempirary fix.... I paid $118 for the dacco converter i had in my truck before i built the new trans, and had found another for $98.. It stalled somewhere around 25-2600 in my truck

I'm not dead set on keeping in there. I just know I will have the motor done and will really want to test it out. So I can slap a trail blazer stall in there and that will be better?
With the pistons I bought is my compression 9-6-1. How do you figure out how much you want to shave off the heads?

My understanding is with the flat tops you shoukd be closer to 10/10.5:1... Tb converter isnt the be all end all, but it is an upgrade over stock.... Just make sure you get a decent converter and install it properly they had an issue with hub height on them getting screwed up in the reman process... Had a build i did as a sidejob, they put the converter in and ate the pump... Turned out the hub wasnt tall enough!!! Dacco is usually pretty good though!!
