Default Low end power

Ok, I have just installed the TR224 cam in my 4.8L, added longtubes and some other mods, but it still seems to me that I have no low end power at all....... Now im still a rookie at all this so what is the best mod to gain low end? The truck dyno real nice after the cam and tune 275hp at the tires but it was at 4500rpm or so....

any idears????

That cam isnt designed for low end.

If you want better low end change the cam, buy a Radix/Whipple or add nitrous.

This is assuming you already have a 3000+ converter in it and decent gearing.

That was the first concern for me right there, was that he didn't change those since it wasn't mentioned at all...

Ahh, then you DEFINATELY need a higher stall converter. With that cam in a 4.8L you should be running about a 3500rpm stall or maybe even more but since most people dont find that very streetable you could run a 3000 rpm converter and have a nice happy medium. It would be a night and day difference off the line.

You seem like you migth be a bit low on rwhp as well and that could be hurting you.

ok well i knew it was suggested to get a converter....so 3000 or 3500k will help of the line....and it was mentioned about the gearing...im assuming the rear end? mind you that Im running 20's on this truck also.....

Trying to get educated!!!!

20s are fine if they are stock height but if you have those super tall SS Silverado style combos then it could be hurting you not to mention if you got those ghetto style KMC "stunna" looking wheels then the extra weight will hurt you even more. An 85+lb wheel combo =

Yeah, for max 1/4 performance I would say a 3500-3800 stall would probably be the best (without a dyno sheet I cant say for sure) but a 3000 would be more street friendly in a heavy truck.

What style 20's? Do you know the weight of them? Rotational mass will take it's toll on low speed torque too. Also, what tire size are you running all around? You might be able to get a shorter tire and not have to worry about gears... Do you even know what rear gear your truck has? Check the window sticker if you still have it...

What gear ratio do you have right now? A set of 4.10's would help some, but youre gonna need a 3000-3500 converter too. I have a similar cam in my 6.0. My old 3000 worked fine with it. The TB (26-2800) was OK, but still lacked a little. Now I have a 3200 and love it. Yours is a 4.8, so the 3000 may be borderline. Id go 3200 or so. Mines a 4wd, and it works great for daily driving.
