Anyone used one? I currently have a JBA catback (real similar to Magnaflow) and have that wonderfully annoying drone around 1200-1800 rpm's. I know the theory behind exhausts is that they act like pipes on an organ: The shorter the length of pipe AFTER the muffler, usually the less drone you have. The longer the length after the muffler, the more drone you have. Well I was thinking...

What if one of these...

were welded between the junction where the catback bolts up and the muffler.. if it would cause some turbulance and muffle the sound more in order to decrease drone. What do you guys think? It costs just as much as a magnaflow, except the magnaflow is that perforated core and this one is louvered design.

Anyone chime in?

 

Actually I beg to differ..

I got the 40 series flowmaster which is very well known for its drone..

For a while I had it dumping right out the muffler with no piping. It was loud and sounded awesome. But the drone from 1800-2100 was freakin unbearable! My head wanted to explode.. the cab would rattle when simply accelerating slow.

I added piping to it and now have it dumping down at the bumper.. the drone is kinda sorta still there but sounds amazing now.

 

Anything dumped is going to drone, but I assumed that everyone knew that What i meant to say was that a shorter length of pipe after the main muffler with some type of interference (another muffler/resonator) should cause enough turbulence to get the drone out of there, instead of resonating in the pipe itself. Sounds good in theory, but i dunno how it works in real life. I guess that's why some nissans and new body SUV's have that lil round piece near the actual exhaust tip... a resonator to lower resonance in the pipe..

I'm still waiting to get the one I orderd. It didn't get shipped out until last Friday. So I better have it this week.
