so i was driving home tonight and i see a lightning. Now i know that 4th gear is gone and 3rd is going, but we get lined up right next to each other at the light. So of course i go for it. Spin 1st, spin 2nd, shift into 3rd and it isnt there. I had the bastard too!!! So then i am driving the rest of the way in 2nd until i leave a light and 2nd is gone too. I this 4l60e piece of **** worth rebuilding or should i get something else???

 

sounds like my old 700r4 in my old *** z, go for the 4l80. if you have the money build it. that should hold for a while.

 

Well if you have never rebuilt it, rebuild it. You can get one to hold about 450-500rwhp easily I'd say in a truck. You toasted the 3-4 clutch pack and your 2-4 band it seems also. Shoot me a PM and I'll get ya a list of stuff to get for the full rebuild on it. It is not like you are the only person grenading the 4L60E...GM never intended these truck to go fast.

 

Oh yeah, the weakest link in the 4L60E is the Sun Gear Reaction Shell...that is after you get clutches that won't slip and the hardened input shaft w/ drum and 5 pinion planets.
