looking for a converter for the 4l80e
is my only option the yank 3200? that looks like a nice converter and all but i like having more options. 3200stall seems good but i wich i could get more STR, with 4wd and what will be a killer entire driveline someday i think it would help some. can these be ordered with diferent STR's? i am not really sure i understand the whole converter thing so a better question would be if i could get a higher STR would i want it?
YANK TRUCK THRUSTER 3200HD (6.0 and 8.1L with 4L80E trans) (258mm, 3200 stall, 2.10 STR) $950 This converter is for the Heavy Duty truck and SUV "hot rodder". It will allow over 3,200 rpm stall, with only a 1,700 rpm drop between shifts. This converter has a maximum recommended towing capacity of 4,000 lbs. Should you need to tow more, please consider the Truck Thruster 2600HD.

I think that that 'verter may be your only option. I remember an article in Car Craft where they changed converters in their chevelle with the 4l80e. They used a 2400 stall and that was about all that was available.
BTW, just curious what stall speed are you looking for?

Yank, Hughes, Midwest converter and Precision Industries (I think). But they all make a good converter for the 4l80e.

Performance Auto and Transmission Center (you know, those fine folks who brought us the Raptor tranny) has some converters available for the 4L80.

Yank will let you change the stall up to 3.0
Would you want to?? I think it would help you out
The higher STR will make it launch much harder but at the cost of efficiency. Im pretty sure it will also make the converter feel a little tighter on the street.

just talked to yank, they said they cam make any converter i want for the 4l80e. the super yank, pro yank, ultra yank, anything i want. the only reason they just list those 2 are because those are the only 2 you would want to tow ANYTHING with.
he sugested the pro yank 3400e, it has a lock up clutch and is designed for power adders, the tech said the STR was 2.7 on that one, at first i thought he must have ment a 1.7 but avter looking at the charts i think he did mean 2.7, that converter has ALOT of torque out of the hole. i might still end up geting the one listed above. who know when i might want to tow something.
definately have more research to do now that i can order any converter i want. lots of options.
