Default looking for a change

I've been looking around for a different muffler for my setup as I don't really like the sound of it any more. Here's what I'm working with
Pacesetter LT's w/ORY (stock cats welded in)
single flowmaster super 40 3in/3in dumped (I hate tips)

It sounds good as far as the quality, but down low I hate how it's got that mustang GT "hollow" sound to it. I guess what I would really like to do is just say screw the cats and ORY and go true dual from the collectors on back. Maybe build a h-pipe to go in there too, but I would like to get rid of the cats or gut them. I've been really happy with the results from the LT's but I think that I can squeeze some more power out of it.

I've read a ton about different mufflers on here in the past few years I've been a member of LS1tech. I've seen a few people use the magnaflow straight through mufflers, but haven't heard one before in person.

What are some opinions on keeping the cats? Switching to what kind of muffler? Dual or single?

I have a K&N FIPK along with my own custom tune. I'm not really looking for an increase in ET, just good sound with more power.

Thanks in advance, I'm just getting back into the modding of my truck so maybe here soon I'll be getting my cam and gears around christmas.

I have never had good luck with flowmaster. Sound and from manufacturing defects. I switched to magnaflow. There are many choices si/so, si/do, di/do ...........
Currently I am running a 3 inch inlet/ dual 2.5 inch Outlet. I had it dumped but just yesterday had 2 2.5 inch pipes ran in front of pass. side tire. I like the sound now better than just dumped. Noticed more low end dumped though. Hope this helps a little.

this is what i will do when i get my exhaust parts to have them welded up

LTs(3" collectors) - doug's electric cutouts - magnaflow 3" xpipe - (2) magnaflow 30"casing(36" total length) mufflers - dumped behind the rear axle. 3" from the collectors back.

you could reduce to 2.5" after the xpipe (xpipe not available in 2.5") for more bottom end. 3"true duals is a bit much for a mostly stock truck

if its not quiet enough for me i will swap out the 2 30" magnaflows for 4 24" magnaflows. magnnaflows will make more power than flowmasters, will it be felt in the SOTP, probably not.

the only thing that is going to show gains from your current setup is the removal of cats. IMO

A single 3" is really more than enough for these trucks! Unless you have some major mods I wouldnt run true duals! I would just swap out your flowmaster for a different brand of muffler!

dual 2.5"s are close to the same flow as a single 3"

true duals have a different sound than a single exhaust also

thanks for the comments guys. I think what I'm going to do is remove the cats and run a si/so 24" magnaflow dumped before the axle. We'll see how everything plays out, but I think this will give me the sound/performance I want. I agree that true 3" duals is a bit much for these trucks unless you're moving a LOT of air through the motor. I've also decided to ditch a cam due to drivability issues and move towards maybe doing nitrous. Not too much, but maybe a 75-100 shot would do the trick.
thanks again for the input, I'm going to put the truck up on a lift here soon and build the shackles for the rear so I'll probably get some pics of the setup then.
