Default Looking for Advice

Hello Everyone,
I have a 2005 Tahoe PPV( Ex Texas DPS) 2wd with about 148k on the clock. The motor is a L59 Flex Fuel, my truck is totally stock. I want more power, so here is what I am thinking, Magneson SC, and a beefed up Finishline Transmission 4l60E with a Yank TC. The last thing I am considering is heads, considering what I have proposed what are the best flowing heads that I can go with? I have put about 20k on the truck since I had it. But because it was an ex-police truck before I do all of this I would want to tear down the motor and refresh what ever parts need to be changed out. I am not looking to go up and down drag strips, this truck will still be driven down the road. I just want a little more power when I am driving it and I want it to be reliable. Lastly, has any one done this and what kind of gains can I expect to see?
Thanks for any reponses.
X-rayman.

Welcome, I have a 2006 Tahoe SSV (4WD police special). A Maggie SC would be awesome. I went a little more conservative with a Airaid intake tube, long tube headers, and tune. Sure woke it up a lot. As for heads, what's your budget? Lots of choices. I'd do a compression check and if all is well, I wouldn't tear it completely down. The bottom end is pretty tough. I would replace things like timing gears and chain, lifter trays, lifters, oil pump, cam, valve springs, pushrods, etc.

Hi there, thanks for the welcome and the reponse. I am thinking for the whole project maybe 10 to 12k. Unless I can get it used, the SC is about 6k, the tranny and tc is about probably 2 to 2500 plus labor to do all of the work. That being said I would probably set aside 1k for the heads. The heads is the one area, that I have no idea where to go.Is 1k a reasonable amount to set aside for a set of heads and if so what are the best heads that I can get for that amount of money?

Thanks.

Texas Speed has PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads that are CNC ported with bigger valves. They are a good bang for the buck (although a little more than a grand).
