You have to tune out the rear O2 codeseither way but catless IS cheaper but other than that it sounds like **** and makes everything smell like gas.

I wouldn't go catless either.

I've got the magnaflow high flow cats on my 6.0 swapped sonoma and she still blows clean with the cat monitors still functioning as per OE GM

apparently not in every situation, as i stated i never threw a code in 3 years with high flow cats and the rear O2s ON. And with the right exhaust setup it wont sound like ****...i took the cats off my current truck within the first year of having it and am very pleased with how it sounded then and now even with numerous different exhaust setups. The overwhelming fuel smell is easily taken care of with a good tune...

Every catless setup I have ever heard (including my own that I had when I was younger) is raspier and has popping on decel.

you must have some bad luck with exhaust systems man. I probably cant count on both hands how may different exhaust setups ive had on my ss in the last 3 years and the only setup that ever sounded like "****" IMO was the very first one...factory manifolds, factory cats, factory duals with 2 single chamber flows welded in place of the stock muffler, and the stock after muffler ypipe and tail pipe. After that the cats were gone and kept the manifolds for a while with different mufflers and its never popped or sounded like an old redneck truck.

BECAUSE........... that cat was just acting as a resonator in the system. Add a normal resonator in it's place and voila, problem solved. If you have loud annoying exhaust, it gets a lot louder sans the cats.. they sound deaden very well. If you had a nice rumbly exhaust that sounded good and wasn't really loud... it becomes loud and annoying without the cats sometimes too. Take the exhaust off post cat and start the engine to see what I mean if you don't know.

I don't run cats on pretty well anything I own and you don't get "gassed" to death with it. I always find these discussuions funny as it's like you guys have never dealt with a vehicle more than a couple years old or something when you start talking like this. But then if everything you have ever dealt with has been catted, I guess you just wouldn't know.

My current 2004 GTP as an example is catless and tuned...... hardly has any smell and with the stock catback sounds nice...... the 3" downpipe just made it sound deeper. Even prior to the tune it still had little noticeable smell.......

Myriads of TBI trucks and carbed ones prior with similar results.

The only reason my 05 retains it's cats is based upon the fact I haven't put long tubes on it.

I ran my 2006 SRT8 Charger catless...... because SLP's convertors that came with the long tubes blew apart inside and actually plugged my exhaust system partially. Tune was right around 12.6:1 WOT and if they can't handle that..... too bad. After looking at how pathetic a high flow cat is inside I will never be bothered with them again. I have taken a look at most large name brands and seen the same design. Basically looks lke a bunch of cardboard on edge inside. No thanks.

Unfortunately the best cats are the originals that are close to the engine and run very hot as previously mentioned.
