Go with the Eaton, I had a 84 Blazer that had the IG80 locker, Well one day a ricer pulled next to me and I thought I would give him a little smoke show. Well I tore the unit completly apart, gears and everything. I had installed a Eaton unit and had it for over a year without a single problem. I had it down in mud and ruts around a foot deep and didnt have to put it in 4wd. Hell slide in down in a ditch full of snow and ice and it pulled right out. They have awesome traction and have my vote.

O.k. I went to NAPA to buy my gear oil, and I know alot of you guys say to put in 80-90 non syn. Well I told that to the napa dude and he insisted that it used 80-90 full syn. So I called up a causin of mine that had reasontly put in some gears and told me he put in some of that Royal Purple stuff, so I tell that to the napa dude. And still insists that Royal Purple IS synthetic. So I really don't know what to get, PLEASE help. Thx. . . .

How used is that used one you got. You see I really didn't have mutch to spend since I'm getting a nelson tune, the gears and well I was trying to get the G80. So all I got left is $150. So Please let me know.

If we're still talking about the Eaton Posi (aftermarket limited-slip), ask them directly.

http://www.eatonposi.com/email.htm

Maybe hearing it from them would make you more comfortable. It is your money - use it as you wish, but if it were me I would not trust anyone insisting on using synthetic with an Eaton Posi.

The Eaton comes with a card that says "The Eaton posi you have purchased should be installed using a mineral based gear oil 80 W 90 (GM#1052271). As an extra precaution for heavy usage applications it is also recommended to use 4 oz. of GM limited slip axle lubricant additive#1052358. the eaton posi LSD is NOT recommended to be used in synthetic oils because of the naturally higher temperatures created by the friction discs."

You can get these oils at a GM dealership.

I've heard of these units not working when synthetic oil was used.

I have the G80 in mine and I have never seen that message and I have locked it up many times in the snow or doin a burnout. Is there supposed to be a message?

If you look in the 2004 silverado literature that you get from the dealership (or maybe it's the sierra one) there is a picture of the message center saying "automatic locking". So I figured it says that when the thing locks up.

I think it is out of a 2000 Suburban with 19K miles and shows to be in super conditon. I would need $20 extra for shipping.
