Default a little knock sensor info

i have tried a few things with my knock sensors, first i tried to decensatize them 22% and had varied results but found out later i had it wired wrong and one of them were even unpluged completly.

once i found this out i wired them corectly for a 22% reduction, i never got any ses lights and i never got ANY knock. seems that i prety much just shut them off. i did the one resistor in series and one in paralelle so as to trick the computer into not seting ant ses light

just last weekend i decided to try alot less reduction, i went with a 10% reduction, i also dicided to try not puting the extra resistor in paraelle since i wasn't changing them very much. this seems to be the hot set up. i am geting no codes at all, see no knock retard with mild boost and alot of knock retard when i try higher boost, i hear about i ping and then it pulls timing like it is suppose to. whats cool about this is to do it all i did was wire in one 10k resistor inline with each knock sensor wire.

Seems just like the KOBox I just installed, although its cheaper. I did get mine used, so its not that bad.

I used to see KR all over the place, even randomly diring normal driving. I do have a noisy motor, not sure if its rocker / valve related or something a little lower (like a rod bearing). With the KOB, I see 0 KR wnd I know it must be really clanging aroung in there. I would be scared to spray with it on. My timing dod go from low 20s to 29*s, so it does work, its just not very safe.

Same as Tex. I run premium pump gas and don't spray so I beleive I will be fine. My motor only has 23000 miles anyway and I keep it in tip top shape. Hell I change the oil every 500 miles because I don't drive it everyday.

This is kind of funny. Look at us, the three amigos. All three of us have 1999 Chevy Excab Z71 trucks all having serious knock retard problems. Given, Parish8 is hard on his truck. I give mine hell at times. Dont know about Jody.

You dont see any 2001 guys here saying "amen" to this KR issue.

When I do drive it (about once a week) it is ***** to the wall. It sees 6000 rpm a lot. Now I don't do the 4wd launches like you guys but she is ragged on.

I hate to break up yalls threesome <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> ... but a also have some KR issues. I have tried the homemade "knock-outs" with mixed results. When they work, they work. But I have a problem with them setting codes. I think it is just bad solder joints personally. I have a 28K in series with a 430K in parallel and have never seen any KR with them. I may try the single 10K in line and see how that works for me. Thanks for the info Parish.

BigKID, all those homemade setups will work for a while and then eventually set a code. Sometimes in an hour, sometimes in a week.

Wiring a resistor in series isn't the answer. Its just a *bit* more complicated, but not too difficult. I plan on putting some instructions together soon on how to build my KOBox, since I don't have much time to build them and I don't sell very many anyways.
