Lightbulb Lets talk PCV....

Well, I'll start here since we're running slightly different setups from the car guys. I did a search for PCV in the external engine section and ran across this: LS1 to LS6 PCV Conversion

I haven't looked under my valley cover, but would this be a vialbe option for us in addition to a catch can?

Other than catch cans and breathers what are our options? I understand why a vacuum is warranted, but from the intake manifold? All this gunk in the intake and heads have to rob us of a few horses after a while, and it really burns my *** after paying a pretty price to get the heads P/P only to see the results negated after 25k or so miles.

yea you can do a ls6 pcv but i am prety sure you have to notch the block a little. that and a catch can should work realy well but some people still have problems.

i eventualy want to rip it all off and try to hook a vacume pump up and see how that works but it will be a while before i get motivated to do that.

i HATE the pcv system.

Can anyone explain why the PCV system is so poor on these motors?

good ?? what makes a good pcv obviously no oil draw but how do they do that. what other vehicke has a good pcv we can look at we need to compare.

obviously the little pcv valve does not stop oil.

also the above mention about the build up on the new heads. how do you think i feel with a moter ready to run boost and by the time it has boost it will be nice and dirty.

I don't have oil loss issues on my WRX...or my F150 due to PCV. Maybe it's too much crankcase venting? Or not enough?

Question How about Synthetic?

OBXMarine,

Correct, I may switch to synthetic after the break-in period is over with.

I think, from what I remember the Vacuum System will free up approx 5hp.

The last time I touched a PCV system was on my '70 Olds.

The car idled rather poor with a catch can - it ran much better hooking it up to a manifold vacuum source.

The motor on this thing was tired. It had a ton of blow-by. When the engine was fully hot, an oily steam would blow out of the breather like a New York man-hole cover at night. It would get you nauseous if you rode in the car too long. This is probably the stuff that goes in the intake and carbons it up.
