Red face Lets talk header, primary, collector sizes, exhaust guys come in

Leave your two cents please...Whats the best route to go.. Lets get to the point. I am in the market for new headers.. What I need to know is, will a LT header with a 2.5' collector CHOKE my setup..(full bolt on 6.0, slight head work, blower) I know that a larger primary, collector will move the power band up, a small prime, collector will move it down, but to what effect.. What is the result of a larger prime size, a 2.5 collector size.. What I am getting at is should I worry about running a small collector like 2.5 or will there not be a difference between the 2.5 and 3in collector.. Thanks for any advice, info or your personal exp with this.. Or a link to who i could contact that would know

John

it will be fine, you might loose a little bit of up top power but you will probably have a litttle more tq down low.

What size primary are the headers your looking at? I have seen some GTO headers that neck down to 2.5 and that guy had no problems with flow....

i would probably go with the 1.75 primaries with the high velocity merge collectors. 1 7/8 stepped to 2 seems to be good for 15+ # of boost or big big cube motors

They are the obx, have a 2.5 inch collector, but 1 3/4 primes.. I just don't want to buy them, they hurt my performance...

I don't remember what you are running right now(stock?) for exhaust manifolds but, 1 3/4" headers with 2.5" collectors will not choke your setup over stock. I think you will feel a nice increase in torque down low, cruising when you are not in boost. Also, the headers will help reduce backpressure in your exhaust and strengthen the top end.

I have had several sets of 13/4" long tube headers over the years on different LS engines and they all gained a nice SOTP feel down low/midrange over stock. With the blower ANYTHING you do to free up the exhaust will help on the topend.
