Lightbulb Last Minute Tips for ASM Install tues or weds

Just wanting to get any last minute advice/tips etc on the ASM install. I will be using the factory Y and cats for now. In a few weeks/month I'll hopefully have my true dual setup figured out. Anyways, are the instructions good enough to get threw it or is there something lacking from them? I'll have to drive about 10 miles to the exhaust shop to get the welds done, but other than that I will have any tool needed I'm sure. I'll be doing it at one of my best friends Body/Custom shops. Should I just cut the exhaust behind the manifolds or about 4inchs in front of the cats? I know the instructions say 1/4 inch, but I'd rather drop the Y, throw it in the back of the truck and take it to the exhaust shop and let them get everything straight, unless I can cut it 1/4 inch or so and it will be gold.

I've searched and whatnot as well, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Brandon

Should not take you too long, just take your time and have patience! BTW, dont use air tools when taking the bolts out of the heads.......this could be a disaster!!

Good Luck and enjoy the new headers!

What I did for the passenger side was remove the plastic inner-fenderwell. Jack the truck up and/or remove the passenger wheel. (I didnt remove the wheel, but it will be probably easier if you do.) And you can just slide the header in right there through the fender.

For the drivers side i came up from the bottom. Once installed, you gotta remove some little piece of metal on the steering shaft, its like a little metal tab. you can get plyers and pry it back and forth and it will snap off. you'll know what i mean when you see it hit the header when you turn your wheel.

The oil dipstick removes with a single bolt. Its really easy to take off, and to put it back in you kinda have to bend it a little over your knee, and work it to go through the header, and back into the motor. Ive heard of people breaking these, so be careful. Just take your time and slowly shape it to fit back in, and everything will be cool.

Other than that, the cats were a pain to cut/fit and all, so I just removed them.

Since you're in texas, like me, you can just take out the cats.. and get some 02 sensors, or have someone like nelson performance turn off the rear o2 sensors with ls1edit.

Also, everything will be alot easier if your stock manifolds are cold. They get and stay hot for a long *** time. I did them when they were hot. It sucks, lol. The cats also get hot as hell too.

good luck.

Dip stick is a PITA to get back in.
Last bolt on the driver side is a PITA
1/4" cut in front of the cats is right on.
I had to move the passenger cat out about 1/2"

Abou a 4 hour job or less with the right tools (sawzall). The reason you don't want to use air tools is due to the feel factor on aluminum heads. Also, my steering column cleared with no problem.
