Labor cost for motor swap?
#1
Anyone have any idea the labor time/cost for a motor swap? I'm selling my 5.3 shortblock locally
and was thinking about offering to install it for some extra cash. $300 sound fair for a few evenings' worth of labor?

I'm paying a shop 1500 to do my swap. I had some quotes as high as 2000 but those are from Speed Shops.
If you were to do it yourself I'd say 500 plus whatever small parts might come along.

Im thinking I may have a local sponser shop do my motor swap as well as my 4L80 install... maybe a couple of other things as I dont have too much time or flexability to screw with it anymore. Im going to see what they are going to charge me and I'll let you know. The guy that did some of my other work quoted me $500 for the motor swap, but he relocated
. Im sure Im going to be a little unhappy with the quote, but as long as they do a good job it will be worth it.
Oh, $500 is a steal even for a buddy IMO

I did my own 6.0 swap over about a week and a half taking my time. Also had a few extra hands. There were several PITA moments: AC, motor mount bolts, and stuffing the starter in. Guess I'll up the $$$ amount if the buyer would want it installed. Thanks for the input guys! I try to cut everyone a break since I'm a nice guy. Guess that's why I'm not in business for myself.
