Default Joining the DuraMax family

I haven't owned a diesel yet so I ordered a DuraMax powered Fire Red 2005 Sierra a few days ago. This will be a crew cab, long bed truck (yup, it will be long! ). Of course I'll be doing the usual performance mods but it will be alot easier to pick up 100-150hp and a TON of extra torque. Plus the increased fuel mileage will be another benefit.

The truck will also be lifted 8-9" and ride on 37 or 38" tall tires and have various audio.video upgrades to keep my 5 year old daughter happy on road trips.

My two 8.1 trucks are for sale. The Suburban only has about 9000 miles on it so it's better to sell this to someone that has the time to use it. I'd like to get $29,500. for the HD and $41,500. for the 'Burban.

2002 8.1 Silverado HD - Full Throttle lift, 37" tires, 4.56 gears, Comp Cam, TOG headers, Volant induction plus more!

2002 8.1 Suburban -Intercooled Whipple supercharger, 22" wheels/tires + more - 407hp/558 ft-lb torque at the rear wheels - 13.93 @ 95.79 MPH

Congrats Tom!!

Next truck I buy will be a turbo diesel for sure... All that potential TQ and no smog. Woot! Except you know I am gonna try and buy the lightest platform that they will put a diesel into and then I'm gonna lighten it some more. LOL Make it a 5500lb truck with 1200ft.lbs of TQ!!!

That would be a good combo! Those motors can make some big numbers and there are Allison upgrades available to go along with it.

I just got off the phone with my dealer. He said that my order was accepted by GM with no constraints. This includes the new power sunroof! For what he saw less than 2% of the trucks built now have this option so it will be rare for awhile. I'm surprized that it slides up and out of the truck instead of disappearing into the roof like the one in my Suburban.

Good choice Tom.I sold my 8.1 HD a year after getting the Dmax.I think you will be pleasantly suprised with the performance and fuel economy.I never thought a 7600 lb crewcab longbed 4x4 diesel would run 14's and get 19 mpg at 80 mph on the freeway like my current rig does.I used to get 5-6 mpg pulling my old trailer with the 8.1,the Dmax was 11-12 mpg pulling the same trailer.GM and Isuzu did a good job on the design of this engine.

I hear that! I used to get low 6s while towing and worked up to a best of 7.8 an enclosed hauler. The Dmax will give me close to 150 extra miles from a tank on a road trip and more than 250 additional miles during normal daily driving.
