Intake Swap. The final Solution?
#1
I read through the archives with regard to swapping an LS1/LS6 intake onto a 4.8/5.3/6.0. A couple of questions remain....Hopefully I digested everything, but may have missed something somewhere.
If new longer injectors are required, are the LS1 replacements the same lb/hr rating? If not, will I need to re-cal the PCM? Would I be better off finding a longer injector with the same rating as the truck? If so, which one's?
Will the truck throttle body bolt up the the LS1? If not, could a simple adapter plate be fabricated? (I have a Shop)? If I need to use the LS1 TB, is it plug and play, or does the PCM require cal?
I read about crossovers , longer bolts, fuel rails, and spacers, so I think I'm ok with that.
Any other surprises?
I'm considering a swap, and need to lower the intake for hood clearance. The LS1/LS6 intake is a full 6" shorter, which would make this project a go. I've read all the flow comparisson stuff, and frankly that's a secondary issue for me at this point.
Thanks,
Andy

What year truck injectors do you have? I don't think any stock Fbody injectors have the same ratings but, will look later today.
Truck TB will bolt right up to the LS1 intake, no problem there. The alternator bracket will have to be trimmed up for it to fit since it will be alot lower than when on the truck intake. PCM won't be a problem either on that.
Get a '97 Vette fuel rail and use that with the regular Fbody size injectors. The '97 Vette fuel rail has the same type of regulator and hookups as the truck.
You won't need any spacers or longer bolts for it either on the LS1 intake.
The water pump is a issue since on the trucks since the outlet comes out pretty much where the TB is at on the LS1 intake. The pulley on the truck water pump also sits out further than a Fbody pulley so you just can't swap a Fbody pump on. I bought a hybrid Evans water pump from Nasty Performance(sponsor--->) that uses a truck pulley and a Fbody front outlet. I haven't put it on yet but, it has the parts of both pumps merged into one to make the swap easier.
Oh, and you have to reroute the serpentine belt to clear the TB. Speartech(sponsor--->) sells an idler wheel relocater to accomplish this.
I think that is about it. Oh, some of the PCV/Evap stuff will require a little work also as the hookups on the intakes are in slightly different places.
What is this engine/intake going in?
