A couple guys had wanted to see how I re-located the IAT to get an accurate reading on the temps after the blower. I just used an LT1 style sensor and mounted it in the EGR blockoff plate with a rubber grommet. Then I cut and extended the wires that went to the factory IAT which is part of the mass air flow sensor. Simple and it works great.

Nate-I have the factory sensor disconnected and this one is hooked to its wires. This way the sensor is reporting to the PCM the actual temp of the air going into the motor instead of the temp of the air going into the MAF. I read it using Atap.

Does it make it easier to tune or anything like that, or is it just for observation?

Tuning is better because the PCM sees that actual temps of the air entering the manifold after compression, not before like on the stock location. Since the PCM adjusts timing based on temps, the tune would be off with the stock location IAT. Air may enter at 60* but exit the whipple at 140*. It would be good for the PCM (and you) to know the real intake air temp.
You can buy an IAT service harness from GM to go along with that IAT sensor.

Does anybody have the part number for the Iat sensor. I think I'm going to do the same thing so I can see the before and after of the alky injection.

No, your PCM is seeing the real temp. Along that logic, you should retune if you DONT relocate the IAT.
The goal is to have the PCM seeing the real temp of the air entering the manifold. Normally, the IAT on the MAF is very close to the temp entering the manifold. But when you throw a whipple compressor after the stock IAT sensor, the PCM isn't seeing the real temps. If you relocate the IAT after the compressor, your PCM does see real temps.
Got it?
