Installing Nelson Tune Tomorrow - Some ??
#1
The PCM is finally here and tomorrow it gets installed. I read the brief install instructions and it seems straightforward. Included in the instructions is a procedure to perform a passkey relearn procedure. Since my truck is an 03, and has this anti-theft system, must this procedure always be performed, or only if the truck does not start? This is not clear in the instructions.
ALSO, in the instructions there are some notes about trouble code P1336 and a quick relearn procedure. Is this normally necessary, or only required if you get the code? Does the procedure clear the code?
LAST, the instructions mention SES or error codes. Is it common to get error codes, and if so, how do you clear them?
I would like to have a better understanding of these points before I start.

Feel free to give me a call anytime and I'll answer all your questions.
Also, post away so others will benefit from the install/procedure/etc...
So far all 99-02's that I send out require the relearn, this is normal. All 03/04's have not needes the relearn, at least from what customers are reporting.
It's odd becuase there is a procedure that is supposed to be followed, however I keep seeing variations in the procedure.
For example, some trucks require that you attempt to start the truck and leave the key on. Some, do not. Some, alternate between the battery, fuel and Security light, other's , the security light blinks and few times and then stays on.
I really can't explain it , lol, I think GM just threw in a few variations on purpose, not sure why.
I've had a person say this procedure was required becuase the pcm's weren't flashed with the right vin, well that's false. All pcms are flashed with the latest gm calibration based on your vin and then edited.
After a reflash, a crankshaft relearn procedure may be required, so far, only one pcm out of hmm a lot lol, actually threw a crankshaft code. That info is in there just incase.
Sometimes ses codes may appear for whatever reason , so I include that just incase it happens.
If you feel unsure about the installing the pcm based on the instructions, call me and I'll be more than happy to walk you thru the install.
thanks,
allen

Only bad thing is it is snowing here and there probably isn't a dry patch of pavement within 50 miles. I drove it around a bit just to check if there were any problems or error codes, so far, so good. It will be a while before I am able to tell how much improvement to performance. I am sick of winter!

Thanks for the update, I wish I could get a straight answer from GM , the procedure is normal and thanks for sharing.
Too bad on the snow, at lease you'll be able to put some miles on it , then once you're able to floor it, it'll be ready.
thanks,
