Default Installing 6.0 cam into a 5.3

So I have developed a lifter tick in my 2011 Avalanche with the 5.3 (LC9). I am in the process of collecting parts to delete the AFM/DOD but not the VVT. The web wants me to put an LM7 cam into my motor as a replacement but looking at the specs of this cam it would be a performance downgrade from my LC9 cam. I'm having a hard time sourcing an aftermarket cam with a single bolt design as a stock replacement to my oem camshaft.. Most of the aftermarket cams I do find are too big for my needs and have too much lift and will require me to start changing valve springs. I'm looking for direct replacement non AFM cam to install in this motor.

I noticed the LY6 and L96 (6.0L) and L92 (6.2L) motors have VVT but no AFM/DOD. Will these camshafts work in my 5.3 (LC9) motor?

Where can I find the cam specs for the LY6, L96 and L92 motors? Any suggestions would help. Thanks

If you're going through the hassle of doing everything else anyway, just go with an aftermarket budget cam like a BTR truck cam, Cam Motion truck cam, etc.

damn. I've been tripping over a single bolt LS2 cam for 2 years waiting for someone to need it (I would give it away) I finally threw it in the crap pile last week and this thread pops up!

you can buy a 3 bolt conversion kit. just make sure you get the cam gear that's designed for the sensor in the front cover.

I have yet to find a budget truck cam. Maybe you can post a link? Most I have seen with a single bolt are $400 and to big for my needs and requires valve springs. I can pick up a GM cam for around a $100 if I can find one that works. I’m hoping one of the aforementioned motors camshaft will work with my 5.3. I’m already $700 deep in parts for this project so converting to a 3 bolt cam is not feesable with my budget. It’s just a truck and a daily driver. I just want this stupid AFM gone. It already has intake, headers and tune and putting 300 HP to the wheels. I’m happy where it’s at performance wise. Thanks for the input.

Is the LC9 5.3 cam bigger (spec-wise) than a stock LQ4/LQ9 cam?

the 3 bolt cam sprocket is only around $20 IIRC. someone will probably give you a truck cam for free.

It is very close spec wise to the LC9.

(LQ9- .467/.479 lift 196/207 Duration and 116 LSA)

(LC9- .467/.479 lift 196/201 Duration and 116 LSA)

(LM7 is .457/.466 lift 190/191 Duration and 116 LSA)

I believe that will require changing out the timing chain and sprockets along with a new timing cover from what I’ve read. Life will be simple if I can just find a VVT stick that will slide right in...

So I came up with a part number for a 6.0L cam which seems to be for the L96 motor. L96 being the flexfuel version of the LY6.

GM #12626660 and its only $86 new. I am still looking for confirmation whether this will work in a 5.3L motor? Anybody?
