ok, makes lil better sense now, older sb's have the temp sensor in the manifold, that would explain the difference

Mine sits and idles at about 185 or so with the 160 stat. After I drive it goes down about 5 or so, but it sticks right around there the whole time, unless I beat on it, it warms up.
