I am posting this for my neighbor. He has a 2000 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0L. Over the last few weeks, the truck is having periodic idle issues. He said it mainly happens when the truck is warm, but may happen when its cold also....he was having trouble remembering all the instances. He will crank up, back out of his driveway and the engine will die. It will start right back up and sometimes it will be okay, other times it will die on him again shortly after...unless he keeps the rpms up. It will also happen from time to time when he stops at a traffic light. The truck has no starting issues, cranks right up everytime, and has no SES light on. Just the periodic low idle and dieing issue. No mods whatsoever done to the truck. My first reaction is sounds like something going bad with the IAC motor/sensor. Anyone got any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

i had similar problems lately. truck stalled out right after starting it. i cleaned the IAC. helped for a while, then i had rough idle again. this time the SES light came on. got it scanned at autozone. cylinder 7 misfire came up. i changed plugs and wires, problemed solved.
if there is a SES on, tell him to get it scanned at autozone first for free before you start putting money into what could be many different things:
- wires
- plugs
- fuel filter
- IAC
- PCV
i am sure there is more that could be added to this list which could cost you more than you need to spend.
