with a cam of that size it would seem difficult to tell if you have any low end. a 3500 stall doesn't get you to the low end.

as for picking your cam Suddog, there are none that will give you good low end torque from a 293 cube short stroke engine. the stock converter isn't a high enough stall with the stock cam let alone going bigger. the comp 206/212 is probably in the area of your best shot at having any decent low end torque. something like naked av is running would also be what you're looking for.

not sure if youve read these but they are good discussions that will answer your questions, just remember they are using those cams in a bigger 5.7 so it will lower the power band in comparison to a 4.8 but the principales are the same.

About the converter thing, if you plan on getting a cam that creates alot of its power off idle or down low it makes no sense to get a high stall. The tcc is there to put you into the rpm range of a larger cam, so with one that creates off idle power you would be stalling right past some of the power band, less area under the curve. A big stall doesnt create power down low, matter of fact it will only multiply torque once near the stalling point. For what your looking to do I thing your on the right track in picking a cam and wont need a higher stall. Look at the specs on the stock cam, read the articles then put the two together and you'll have a picture of what cam you want.

Yeah LOL. My fault I worded that way wrong. A Stall with get you a lot of power of the line is what I meant to say by jumping up the RPMS to where power is at it's greatest. Wow, I bet yall think I'm an idiot now ;)

i knew what you meant by it, but wanted to clarify it for others that may have taken it the wrong way.

did you dyno with this cam any more info you can give us? Looks like a good choice for what he wants to do.

i didnt get my truck dynoed with this cam,but i put in in , drove it for a couple of weeks and then i got a great deal on a bigger cam to go with my whipple.this cam was real stong on the bottom end, pulled hard to about 5500 rpm

Mr. Sandog 08-26-2005 05:16 PM

Mine gave me 15 RWHP all over, 20 RWHP peak, on back-to-back dyno runs, with the cam being the only variable changed. This is the same cam.

Best part of the cam install was the off-idle power....'holy shit' is the best way to describe my reaction. I am very happy with it.
