I traded my truck and I have a couple of questions
#1
Well I did it. I traded my 2002 4.8 Silverado ext cab for a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500HD Crew cab. This thing should really tow our camper well.
Anyway, I need to hook up my brake controller. Do I need the harness that hooks up under the dash? If not, what wires do I use?
Also, what is the deal with the reciver hitch?? I tried to put in my ball and the hitch pin will not fit. Is there a special pin that is used for the OEM hitch?

There is nothing special about the hitch, maybe you have a odd shaped or sized pin, and teh brake controller is an easy job, if you already had it wired up into your other truck, it should plug right in, that is if you had the tow package on your other truck, if not, your car should have come with the plug for the controller, and all you have to do it plug it in and go

Yup, if you have the Tow Package it's a plug and play deal with the harness. I didn't have the tow package on my truck and had to wire all that crap in which isn't fun. I had my trailer builder to wire it in for me.
For the pin, try a new one like 00silverado said. If that doesn't work you may need to bore out the hole a tiny little bit with a drill.

I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. I HAD THE TOW PACKAGE AND THEY GAVE ME A HARNESS IN THE GLOVE BOX THAT PLUGS RIGHT IN.THEN WIRE IT UP TO THE BRAKE CONTROLLER.I HAVE A VERY GOOD ADJUSTABLE BRAKE CONTROLLER AND THE HARNESS THAT WILL NEVER BE USED IN MY GARAGE.LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED THEM.$20.00 AND IT IS YOURS.ALSO ON THE HITCH PIN I HAD TO USE A 5/8 PIN.

The 2003's are not coming with a harness in the glove box. Also there has been a wire change in 2003. Most dealers and supply houses don't have the correct harness yet. You can use the 2002 and down harness, just use the brown wire for the brake switch. You will also have to install a fuse in the box under the hood.

Thanks everybody!!
It ended up being some flashing left in the hole, a little drill-will-do-ya .
I called the dealership today and they have a harness waiting on me.
Thanks for the info everybody!!
