Default I think I have a lifter going bad.....

Damn......I just installed a PerformaBuilt lvl2 and 2500 stall, my long tubes and ory and im waiting to get a tune but I think I have a lifter starting to give me problems. Here is what my truck is doing.....

While driving it around (just trying to put miles on the trans for the dyno tune) the engine runs like a champ.....ZERO noise, great oil pressure (around 40 at idle and 40-60 while putting around town.) When I come to a stop or park my truck and letting it idle for a few minutes a small tapping sound froms on the drivers side only......the more I let it tap the louder it will start to get. (While tapping sound is going on I STILL have great oil pressure like mentioned above.) If I bring the revs up a little the tapping will start to quiet down until it goes away and then the engine goes back to ZERO noise. These are the factory lifters with 233k miles on them so I imagine im due for a change.

How hard is it to change the lifters? I had a few friends back in high school (may or may not have known what they were doing) do valve work on their own cars had had rockers sliding off while driving down the road ....I do a lot of driving (obviously) for work and CAN NOT be on the side of the road for issues like this. If changing the lifters (all of them) is easy Ill do it my self....if there is a lot involved I have thought about letting a shop do the work and fork out the cash. Im just looking for some input/advice as im a little intimidated on this one. (Maybe im just being a puss )

PS: The PerformaBuilt LVL2 is awesome! I just need to tune the long tubes and shift points then I can really test it out! But im not going to dyno until I get this lifter issue fixed.

Before I would go that far, I would first run a tank of 93 octane through it.Mine makes some noise when sitting still when I get some bad gas or gas with alot of ethenol in it. Then If that didnt work, I would try seafoam.

If the cheap stuff doesnt cure it, you know what you have to do. I dont know how mechanically inclined you are you its fairly easy to do once you have the intake off.

The heads have to come off to replace the lifters.

You can clean the lifters first without having to take heads off. Drain all your oil out, then fill it up with 4 quarts of oil and 2 quarts of trains fluid. Start it, high idle it for atleast 10 minutes then drain it, change filter and fill it back up with fresh oil. Has worked on tons for me.

Well as far as gas goes i only run 93. And its a fresh oil change with new filter. Using the same type oil for the last 80k. I know I can do this as I can work on things pretty well (a friend and I changed the trans in the drive way with no trans jack ) Im just worried about a few of my friends issues (again they may not have known what they were doing ) Im going to look into it a little more.

What i posted obviously went over your head. If you do what i posted you will save yourself alot of time and some money. But if you insist on pulling heads then so be it.
