now i've heard alot of threads that involve this question, but what is the actual limit on the 4.8/5.3? most people say to not go over 100shot without internal mods, but ive seen people with up to a 175-200 shot. i still have yet to hear of someone blowing up a new vortec? im saying this because im thinking of doing a 125, do u think it would be safe?

i always here a 125 is the limit for the fbodys, someone around here said somehting about runing LOTS of bottles worth thru a 5.3 with a 150shot.
it isn't the motor that is the problem, it is the fuel system. with a good fuel pump and some ***** i wouldn't be too afraid to try going over 150

Hyde, Mix, SS Escalado, and others might have opinions on this. I think that its possible to spray 150 with no problems one time, two times, more... But eventually, it will catch up to you. I haven't sprayed over a 125 on mine, but I think I have some side effects. I have some internal low end knocking that doesn't go away with warm up. I know that every time I spray it, I'm taking a little chance.

Between 75-125 should be okay. Just be sure you have enough fuel. And you must go with different plugs also. Sure you could get away with a bigger shot, but on stock pistons...I wouldn't risk it.

The racers rule of thumb, is with a wet shot, you should not exceed 20hp per cyclinder increase with stock internals. Concidering that we have steel forged cranks, I believe that the block is up for it 125, or a little more. Putting 150 or more, then you start having to worry about Pistons, Rings, and Headgaskets. If you go with forged Pistons, ProMoly Rings, and O-ringed heads then for the most part with our crank and rod setup, you can go 200 pretty much all day, hardened valves would not be a bad idea either. Check with NitrousExpress, very proffesional, and many, many great reviews with great customer support! Oh Yeah, go Forged Rods also, and some oil groved bearings, and you can get about 250 shot with some ARP main cap studs, but that is kind of pushing it with Aluminum heads. My friend had a motor built for nitrous, with all the goodies, and he still blew an Iron head, running a 300 4 way Throttle Body spacer injection wet shot. I would never personally go over a 200 shot, even with a built motor, unless it is for racing only.
But I have run 125 shots on 2 eight cylinders motors now, and was able to get about 90,000 miles out of each of those before needing a rebuild. I also recommend never go dryshot, almost impossible to get the fuel ratio just right.

Any amount of nitrous can have engine threatining effects. If your not sure what your doing, don't do it. A proper set-up sraying at the right times and correct shift points, can get into the 200 range for optimum performance. But one mistake with that kind of shot and your truck will go boom! A stock internal engine will handle 100-125 shot all day long when set up properly. My dry 100 shot with the help of a confused MAF lasted about 2 runs at the track and 20 on the street. I don't recommend dry shot on these trucks. Some guys have had good luck with it, but not me. If you need it to last, go conservitive.
