Default How do you Remove the Spark plug wires on Silverado?

Just wondering how to remove the boot from my 2003 Silverado. I keep pulling but seems like I'm about to rip it off. Does the aluminum tube surrounding the boot have to be pushed/pulled or turned or something?

Twist the boot while pulling and it wil come out. I used an adjustable wrench to get mine off, but I already had the replacement wires so I didn't care about damaging them. You could also buy a spark plug wire puller from your local auto parts store. Use some dielectric grease on the wires when replacing them and that will help them come off alot easier next time.

Ok, thanks! I just tugged the crap out of them and they came off. I was simply worried about damaging them in case they had some sort of locking mechanism. You never know with today's vehicles.

Nope, just twist and pull. If you can get your fingers around the metal heat shield, pull on it. I can't and picked up a set of angled needle nose pliers to get in there for me, I have fat boy hands...

i always seem to rip a few of the OEM plugs. have a new set of plug wires on standby from my experience. the stuff gm uses turns to concrete after a few years.

Thankfully mine were easy. I found out they used dielectric when they changed plugs before I bought it and my new wires came with a little packet for me to use.
