Hooker aerochamber vs. 50 series SUV Flowmaster
#1
I've had my hooker sitting here for about a week. I'm ready to install and i'm wondering what I can expect as far as performance and sound. From what i'm told the 50 series SUV is not a good performance muffler. I wish I had found this site before buying the Flows.
Anyone here ever go from the 50 series to the Hooker?

Well, just went to Flowmaster.com and saw this chart. The 50 series SUV is wayyyy down on the totem pole (for sound). So by looking at this chart, where does the Hooker aerochamber fall? ie., what series Flowmaster does the hooker aerochamber compare on this chart (for sound)?

The Hooker Aero is of no comparison to a Chokemaster. They dont have the maze of backpressure producing baffles in them. The Hooker is dam near straight through. They have good tone yet at the same time arent obnoxious sounding. The one I heard didnt have the synonymous Flowmaster drone either. IMHO, no Flowmaster is good for performance. Except for that little single chamber "thing" they call a race muffler.

dont know about SUV's and the aerochamber but i have one on my SSS and it is awesome, there is some annoying resonance between 1800-2300RPM's when under load but it sounds sick when you start to get on it. Flowmasters are way overated if you ask me and like mentioned before the Hooker is basically a steel enclosure with an inlet and outlet. Straight through design. Go with the aerochamber, you wont be disapointed

I just replaced 2 flows w/the aerochambers and it did make a noticeable difference up top. But the funny thing is, that the aercochamber i had you could see straight through it. I don't have any cats, it was goin into an x-pipe into the two mufflers and then dumped right before the axle. I thought it was going to be extremely loud. But it's not, it's actually quieter than the flows at idle, but when you romp on it, they sound awesome. Try to stay away from the flows, they are WAY overrated.

I'm confused about the perception many people have about Flowmasters. I've run them on three vehicles and have run Magnaflows and other sraight through designs as well. I don't have ANY resonance with my 40 Series Delta single I/O on my truck. The shop installed it sideways (no joke). I was skeptical about that at first, but I think the muffler projects the resonant sounds out to the sides of the vehicle as a result.
The other thing is that backpressure is necessary for proper cylinder pressure levels. On most street motors, running no restriction is going to make less power.
I would love to see track times with the same vehicle on the same day with different mufflers - that would be the best comparison.

OK, I installed the hooker today and the sound is very much like the flowmaster. I noticed better torque down low. Much better flow and the sound is just as good if not better than my 50 SUV flowmaster.
The flow will go on Ebay this week. PM if interested. SI/DO, off-set in.
