Homemade Ram Air...

hey fellas...I recently got a new Volant CAI w/o the ram air to replace my K&N CAI and finally got it on the other day. So seeing today was a slow day I took a trip to home depot and pick up some stuff to make a ram air rather than spend lots of $. So heres what I came up with...now dont laugh as this is temporary until I get some further ideas...
I got a sewer pipe reducer from 3" to 4" to hook up to the air box. I had been doing some reading and then had said it would be best to have a larger intake and outlet for the best 'volume' of air if you will and it made sense so I used 4" dryer duct for the tubing reason being its very very flexible.


I simply just bent it down to my fog light hole(seeing I dont have one)and carefully squished it until it fit.




It sure doesnt look pretty but hey it works and it doesnt have any sharps bends to it and I did it right in the parking lot. I went about 85 down the highway with no problems. I need to figure out a way to make some sort of collector rather than having it just squished. what would be a good way of doing this. Ive never done anything with fiberglass so I dont know how that would turn out but Im open to ideas!...
For now I was just thinkin of painting it black so it doesnt stand out so much until I finish the scoop.
Now Im sure you all are wonderin what I think of it compared to my K&N...some people would say there is minimal difference or they are the same. I really think the Volant out performs the K&N hands down. Im not sayin the K&N is a bad product at all but I was very pleased with the way everything fit together and performs. I drove it for about 2 days without my little ram air set up and noticed great improvements.
Now this is where it gets a little weird. While the MAF was off I cleaned it but I never had cleaned it from the backside and after my install, my SES light went off and the truck ran like a champ, so I dont know if that had anything to do with it. Once the ram air was on it seemed to gain just a wisker bit more towards top end.
And some people ask about noise difference, and I think this is just as loud as my K&N, little different sounding but I like this one better. seeing my truck is a standard I can lug it out and floor it and really make it bark loud.
Are the Volant filters pre-oiled when u get them?...doesnt seem like it so I just cleaned my K&N filter and stuck it on there until I asked you guys.
Also here is a question for you guys running volant ram air, do you guys have the window by the fender blocked off or open. I was wondering if all the air would be pushed out the window but then again it still would be cooler air entering the box...just a thought

Simple green will clean it. To keep it clean, I use that foam tire dressing. I wipe off the excess. Stays new looking. People always say how clean it is and say I must spend hours cleaning it, it takes 5 minutes at the most.

but ya just use some sort of a degreaser and let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off. just dont spray electrial times directly if you know what i mean

the fog light would work. take the glass cover off, cut the backside to fit the hose, paint it black so its not noticable. the ram air system i got on mine works great, way better than stock, but if i didn't live close to Houston i wouldn't have had it done. great thinkin on ur part tho.....hats off.
