Default Holy Gas GUZZLER Batman

I bought a 2002 8.1 Silverado 2500 HD in November. It has an extended cab, tow package, Allison 5 speed auto tranny and it's a 4 X 4... Love the truck, Love the comfort, Love the Power but man does it suck up the gas. I average about 11 MPG but I have been known to have a lead foot.

I have towed my 99 Camaro and my brothers 69 Camaro and you would never know a car was in tow. Gobs of power. Average 10 MPG while towing.

If I drive alot of highway and keep it at 75 or so in cruise control I get almost 13 MPG but thats no fun

Just for your info

Tom's 496ci motor -->

That isn't as bad as my old '69 Camaro that got a whopping 9 mpg

I know how ya feel Tom. I had an '01 Lightning for a while, and it drank the gas, too. When I was looking at getting another Chevy or GMC, I could've gotten a really good deal on a black ext. cab. HD w/ the 8.1L. The truck was AWESOME, but I didn't want to end up with another crazy gas bill. My cousin has a '02 GMC HD with the Duramax, and that truck would pull a house without even knowing it!

I wouldn't feel too bad making 10-11mpg in a 496 Big Block 2500HD 4x4. I usually get 12, sometimes 13mpg with my truck.

We have an '82 GMC farm truck (454/turbo400/4.10/4x4) that gets 4 to 5 mpg on the highway, doesn't matter if it's towing or empty.

It's good to see that technology in the last 20 years has given us work trucks that have more power and at the same time make double or triple the fuel mileage.
