High Reving
#31
What are the benefits if any of using an iron block? Durability, reliability, strength, cooling?
I would think an iron block might be better for serious high horsepower applications, BUT of I guess that would all depend on the way the block is actually built (ie. compression, pistons, rods, etc.)
Does anyone know how much lighter an aluminum block is than an iron one?

the iron block is better...i was just gonna do you a favor if you wanted it. i can get 4.030 out of either block so it doesn't really matter to me which i have. i do prefer the iron block though

are you sure you can take a 5.7 aluminum block out to 4.03? without resleving?
the best thing about a 6.0 block is the price. you can build a very strong motor without spending alot of money. they can be bored and stroked to well over 400ci with minimal work to the block and be very reliable.

you can get a 408(.030 over 6.0 with a 4" crank) short block for under 5k from some of the sponcers, that is forged everything and would be ready for ALOT of hp. not sure how much a 5.7 would cost but if you go over a 388(i think) you have to sleve it and it is going to cost you more.
edit... seems like an extra 20cu in would be worth the weight penalty especialy if it made for a stronger unit(debateable)
