Default HELP! Transmission failure!

ARGH! Had the truck not even 2 weeks!

Well, guess my beating on it has ruined the clutch packs in the tranny ... it only works in 1st. And of course, I can't drive very quickly in 1st because the tranny shifts itself out of 1st and into 2nd, where it just slips slips slips (3rd also slips), as does reverse...

I am weighing my options right now. There is a salveage yard I deal with on a regular basis that can get me a used one. I am considering this.

I am also considering having a tranny shop rebuild this one.

Are there brand new trannies available? I am capable of doing the swap myself, but will not waste time rebuilding it myself!!

Any other suggestions?

Also, what internal upgrades/ modifications can be made while the tranny is out of the truck (upgrade clutches, servos, etc). I am not interested in changing the torque convertor because gas mileage will suffer ...

Chris

Either I have a freak built-from-the-factory tranny, or you guys just beat on your trucks much more than I do All I have is a Transgo and a cooler (although the slicks will be the true test in a few weeks )

check out www.flp2win.com and www.teamtripp.com to see what upgrades they put in their built units. BTW gas mileage will not suffer much at all with a stall, but it depends on the tune and lock/unlock settings

I talked to my buddy ... turns out you're not supposed to leave the tranny in 1st, or 2nd, and floor it ... it puts too much strain on the clutches. Instead, he recommended that with the new tranny, that I leave it in drive and let it downshift on its own.

So it's my mistake!!

Um, Dont get a Level ten trans, they suck. I blew up 4 of there transmissions. Do get a good rebuild kit. FLP seems to have a good rebuild kit. Oh, BTW the 4l60e is a week *** trans, so keep in mind that iff you beat on it, itll break. Good luck

Any other recommendations?

Note: this truck will not have a stall convertor, I just want a slightly better than stock replacement!

thanks,
Chris

Yeah, ain't it great, all the 4l60 is, is an electronic 700R4, which was never known for it's strength either, why won't they build a decent trans in there light duty trucks? The 4l65 is better than the 60, so i would try to go that routm have one built to 65 specs with all the goodies, and since the 65 is all internal differences, it'll be cake.

ZYA is right, go with the 65E if you can find one. The 60E is very weak, you are definitely NOT the first to break one. Usually tho it is the 3-4 clutch pack and band that fries. Keep that in mind if you do go for a local rebuild.
BTW, the 4L65E was new for 2004 so they may not readily available yet.

4L65E has been in certain GM trucks since 2001,you would have to change the output shaft to make it work in a 2wheel drive

I am never going to launch the truck on slicks, so I'm thinking a stock rebuild with good parts will be sufficient.

Question: should I add a Transgo while I'm in there or will that just shorten the life of the tranny?

What is the difference between using the HPPIII to firm up the tranny, and installing a Transgo???
