Default help!!! Oil Filter

I'm at 1100 miles and I need to do my first oil change. 2006 Chevy 5.3 Iron block non flex fuel. Going to use regular dyno oil but the filter book says PF46 and I looked at them in the store and they are smaller then the unit I run on my Supercharged monte. Is there a bigger filter I can run or is this it?

Great question man.
I have tried to find a larger one myself by comparing the seal diametrs and widths as well as the thread size and its offset from the seal and have found nothing at the local Fleet Farm or Auto parts stores.
I even brought a caliper to check sizes one day and got some weird looks from the staff there.
I'll do a web search and see what pops up.

I hear ya I know the 3.8L GM Cars can use the 4.3L blazer oil filters which are much longer (about twice the filtering ability) but I know nothing about our filters other then they are about 1/4 of the size that I used on my F150

The PF59 filter will work. It'll hold another 1/2 quart of oil. However, if I recall the PF46 which is recommended for your truck has an anti-drain back valve installed. The bigger PF 59 doesn't. I run the small filter on my truck because I change oil every 2,000 miles anyways.

Very true! There are some larger filters out there that I would not use on a $1000.00 beater car.
Amsoil has some on their site but they are pricey.

there is more to a filter than size and thread. even given same brands, you should'nt just pop on any filter that fits

Trey I appriciate your help but I'm well aware of what is in a filter. I am also more aware of what goes on in my vehicles then most too since I draw SOS every 2k miles.

FWIW, I have a couple old PF59's left in the garage and they do have an anti-drainback valve. With a vertical filter having an ADBV is of little benefit.

Some other info I can provide from my involvement with Amsoil:
FILTER--OD-HEIGHT--ID GASKET-OD GASKET-BYPASS-ADBV
SDF64-2.920-4.094---2.480-------2.810------NONE--NONE
SDF32-2.920-3.494---2.480-------2.810-----7-9PSI--YES
SDF30-2.920-4.844---2.480-------2.810-----7-9PSI--YES

All threads on LS-based engines are 13/16x16.

These filters are the old Amsoil SDF filters which are now replaced by the EaO prefix.

99-02 called for the SDF64
03-later called for SDF32
Why were they changed? Not sure but I believe GM changed their recommendation so they could put the same filter on the trucks and cars and the PF59 or SDF64 was a little to long in the cars.

If you want to know prices on the EaO filters:
Retail / Dealer (Friends) Cost
EaO64 15.10 / 11.50
EaO32 15.10 / 11.50
EaO30 15.75 / 12.00

I use K&N oil filters in all my vehicles. If I cannot find the K&N at the time, I go with a Mobil 1 oil filter.
