Default Help: noise

ok so the LTs are all done and everything. I pulled my shitmaster off cuz it sounded worse than an Aerochamber. So straight pipe and when its hot it hits a certain tone/rpm I guess where it sounds like its either rattling the **** outta the bed or maybe a heat shield? or maybe it doesnt like the 2.5in piping? I think it sounds like **** untill u get a higher rpm then its just loud as *****. I need a muffler I know that much, but is there anything for sure this noise could be? Thanks guys

I'd go with the heat shield. Mine does it to especially at idle just haven't got around to fixing it yet.

Let's not forgot headers talk to you...their not exactly the stock 1/4" cast manifolds made for driver comfort.

What rpm does it do it at? if im cruising at 1600rpm in fifth my truck sounds like **** really doesn't rattle and it probably is related to how my dump is but oh well. My truck isn't below 2500rpm unless im cruising down the highway interstate.

yeah I think its a heat shield cuz its at a certain RPM.. and its comin from the back forsure. Im still not sure if I may have an exhaust leak from the **** *** merger they used, but hey I cant complain; its from AJ's old stock Y--haha ironic. And 2 they did the **** without cats no questions asked
So Ill get around to pullin the heat shield and finding a muffler. Ill let everyone know if it goes away.
BTW, what does everyone think sounds better/louder: Magnaflow small round, or Magnaflow oval muffler?

im running an 18" oval case magnaflow, 3" i/o thats dumped 4" after the muffler and it sounds great IMO.

it's not noticeable after the radio is on, and i plan on some dynomat on the floorpan/backwall to resolve the issue completely.

14" oval case is just too ****** loud IMO, i tested one out and its just rediculous.

I would just check for loose components...and one more thing...loud as ball? Is that possible?

haha, well thanks smart ***
Im pretty positive everythings tight because its all welded except where the 2.5 and 3in meet. And even then it wouldnt make sense for the noise to come when its hot. Thanks dustin, try again
hey btw, wanna go the the track again? another 1/8th mile burnout in order?

Mine rattled everything to Hell when it was dumped. My setup is manifolds into an ory to a single 3" with a long Classic Chambered Powerstick. I ended up running it out the side in front of the right rear tire with a dual resonated tip and it cut down the rattles and drone drastically. The exhaust note is a little better now too but when you get on it all Hell breaks loose

haha, thats awesome and thats what I like to hear
what does everyone think about Purple Hornies? (http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...alse&N=700+115)
I was thinking about the 3in/out but it may be a little less backpressure than I need with no cats but I can always say I ordered the wrong ones and send em back to summit and get some 2 1/4 out.
Im thinking this is what Im gonna do, and just go back to the muff shop and have em chop the **** now and flange my headers and Ill put these bad boys on. Cheap true dual and I think it'll sound good? Wish me luck, I may have the funds this week
