Default help...need more power

whats up guys, i have a 5.3l regular cab 2wd, i have a hppII, kn fipk, jba headers, and thats about it..........i want to get a cam, and dont no spec, i dont care if its rough and but i want it streetable and gas mileage is still an issue considering in a college student without a job. i also was looking to port and polish my heads and intake manifold. i also wanted to no what a stall converter actuly does and if its streetable. one more question, how do ls1 edits make a difference and are they alot of money. thanks for any help......i want more power.....if anybody knows of any deals id appricieate any advise. thanks again oh and i im also running 3.73 gears.

well you should consider a catback to increase flow, if you are going to do a cam I would look at nothing bigger than 212 degrees @.050" on the intake and A LSA around 114-116 there's a comp cam that a lot of people here like, and say it doesn't hurt low end. the more low end you lose the worse your mileage will get
