Default Help me spend my money wisely please

I got a stock 03 silverado with a 5.3....3.42 gears and i pulled my sprintcar trailer every weekend atleast an hour and a half one way. Already committed to 3.73 gears. Waiting on delivery man to show up. Then its a cat back system. Got access to doin it myself to save money. Question is im thinkin 50 or 40 series flowmaster muffler. I like tone but not obnoxious. Which would you choose ? And both tail pipes behind the right rear tire or split out the back ? Then its headers aint got the money for long tubes so please dont beat me up for gettin shorties. But what brand is the best to consider? Been lookin at jba stainless. My money goes to the sprintcar.

I know what you mean when all your money goes to your race car lol.. There's a set of longtube headers with Y pipe shipped for around $280 on ebay. I've but on several sets and never had a problem. Plus they are stainless steel. In my opinion I think you should have gone with at least 4.10s or 4.30s. I have 4.56s with my 370 and pulling my race car it never kicks down even going up hills.

Agreed on the gears, 4.10s would have been a good choice to go with. If you're going to spend the money on headers at all you might as well save a few extra pennies and get long tubes. The ones on eBay are great for the money and will perform a lot better than any shorty header on the market. Also look into getting a custom tune, you'll need it when swapping the gears and everything else anyway. And stay away from flowmaster, they are literally crap and will probably do nothing but hurt your towing. Look into an oval cased magnaflow, they have a lot of different sizes for depending how loud you want it.

ditto on the 4.10 or more if it's not too late. JBA's are among the best of the shortys if you can't hold out for long tubes.

3.73s are not enough different. You should have gone at least 4.10s. No way would I install a 40 series FM. It will drone like crazy, especially pulling that trailer! You're wasting your money on the shorties too. Please let us help you do your homework and do it right. As my Dad taught me, "Do it right, or don't do it at all". Otherwise you're just wasting money and labor.

Thanks fellas this truck is still my daily driver. Driving about an to work everyday. And i do agree with the kicking down comment. That sucks when it does that. The gears are still in the box and i havent received them yet so maybe i will send them back and get a different ratio. And the headers didnt realize there was a set on ebay for around 280 must have missed those ones.

also be careful running tips out the rear when pulling a trailer, keep them tucked up under the bumper or they may get damaged, plus all the heat and crap goes straight to you trailer.

http://stores.ebay.com/proautoluxury..._sid=995435092

Proautoluxury sells the stainless OBX style Ebay headers for $255 +$45 shipping the thing is it says buy it now or best offer. What you do is offer him a little low the first time like $225 plus the $45 shipping and he will counter offer you prob around $285-$290 then you counter offer again and say I'll take it for $235 + $45 shipping and say I will pay for it today if you'll do that. He will then accept it then you own the headers. Best deal ever, that is what I did.
