Default Help Me Pick Out a Cam...

Alright guys I'm fixing to start some engine mods on my dads 2006 Silverado. I'm gonna be putting on a CAI, Vette servos, LT's and I am wanting a small cam. I don't want to have to change out push rods and springs, but I will. The truck mainly sees highway driving but I do romp on it around time from time to time. So shoot me some thought/opinions on different setups and I will go from there.

Thanks,
Dusty

BTW- Its a 5.3 with the 4l60e

I don't mean to be a dick Dusty, but this exact same question was asked at least 4 times today. It gets covered everyday.

If you want any kind of gains your going to need to change your pushrods and springs. Changing pushrods is something a small child can do though.

Thanks Mark,
Yeah I know it gets asked alot, I just like to get opinions for myself rather than reading what everyone else wants. I don't mind getting springs and rods, just thought I might not have to...

Well I drive it just as much as he does because it gets WAY better mileage than my 2500HD. It is also out of warranty whereas mine wont be for quite sometime...

Your best bet:

Get something like a vinvi 210/216. It's about as big as you want to go until you add a torque converter. It won't have any problems idling and it will make great down low power. You'll need some springs to go with it. Pushrods aren't mandatory but are strongly recommended.

My Vinci 210/218 will be up for sale next month if you're interested. I'm throwing a Radix on so its gotta go.

I think all aftermarket cams have a smaller base circle and would require a pushrod change. Not sure what lift stock springs can handle.

Does the truck already have a custom tune?

All it has right now is exhaust, it will get a custom tune as soon as I have everything else done to it.

Since you are just starting out, get the engine breathing, a shift kit, and get a tune. Most tuners offer free updates.

What gears are in it now? What is the cab/bed configuration?
