Default Help me with my exhaust choice

I have 02 tahoe with 5.3 with k&N intake kit

I have $300 to spend on exhaust system.
I would like to have a fairly modest improvment in torque and mpg performance. I'm looking for minimum interior sound while maintaing a fairly deep and mellow exterior sound, certainly better sounding than stock. I would like to stay away from the real aggressive and loud sounding exhaust systems.
I think I want to go with single out muffler with the tip coming out near the stock area.
I need help deciding what size piping I should use, what kind of muffler(flowmaster,magnaflow,borla,...), and what tip to use.
Thanks for any help, Site looks awsome!

Can't really comment on the interior sound of Magnaflow, but the Borla definately would be better sounding and still fairly quiet inside. If you could afford it, the Corsa touring would be good as well.

300 doesn't leave much room for a catback these days, but does leave room for a muffler swap. this is where you'll want to search around the most.

To save money could I just get the magnaflow muffler and just the rear pipe with tip, leaving the stock pipe going in the muffler from the cat converter?
Sorry If I sound very new to this stuff, but its becuase I truly am.

also what kind of muffler is that magnaflow?
I have heard some pretty good things about the brand.

Well I don't know about the pipe with tip, but you could reuse the stock pipe going into the muffler. For what it's worth and sounds like all your wanting, just reuse the stock rear pipe as well and add a tip. Most exhaust shops have a variety to choose from so that shouldn't be a problem.

Keep all your stock pipe (before and after the muffler) and just weld the muffler in. If you want a nice tip you could weld that on as well.

Magnaflow is a straight-through muffler with very good gains. You'll want the big muffler if you're sensitive to noise.
