btw nice forums and trucks you guys have on the posts.
i have a 01 Blazer extreme(4.3L) and its losing water daily. just replaced the water pump and radiator cap and about to put a fail safe thermostat in it. was out yesterday all day and drove around 130 or so miles (half a tank of gas
) and 5 miles from my house the temp was over 240F and running rough. it was fine for the whole day until then. after it sat for a little i was able to fill it back up and drove home with the temp at 190-198F (actron scaner) and it was fine all the way home. my dad and i are thinking that its the heads. started it up today and there was a good amount of steam out of the pipe that i could see from sitting in the driver set and when i backed away there was about a 3foot by 4 foot of wet pavement from idling a few mins.
when it over heated yesterday the scaner showed up a muiti-cylinder misfire error code. i replaced the cap and rotor last year and the fuel pump. it looks like we need to do new head gaskets. is there any thing else that we might need to look in too? its running with just pure water after doing the water pump and it had dex cool coolant before that. is it eligible for the dexcool class action and we should just take it to the dealer and let them do it if there going to replace it for nothing or should we bite the bullet and do it on the weekend.
o and the truck has 110,000 miles on it and is kept very well and driven like its suppose to.
also is there any thing you would recommend to do along the lines of upgrades/how to fix the secondary air malfunction when the fuse blows for the secondary air pump

I'd do a compression check before pulling the heads or anything big.
Or get an adapter that screws into the sparkplug holes that let's you can attach an air hose to it. Plug air in and keep an eye on your coolant level.

was going to pull the plugs and look for a nice clean one wouldnt that show what cylinder was leaking also?
as long as i kept water in it would it be ok to drive untill the week end? need to drive to school its about 15 miles round trip for 3 days this week. was on the way home last year when the fuel pump went out and it ended up restarting before i stopped and drove all the way to a block from the house and i ended up pushing it home when dad got home lol.

whatever you do..dont let it get to 240deg. again...if the heads are okay now they wont be then. From your description it sounds like a intake gasket but my old truck with the 4.3 never ceased to amaze me just when you thought you had it nailed down, the problem was elseware

so far we have had a brake line break the heater quit last winter(was dexcool in the heater core and we blew it clean with the hose) the rear light controller quit then the fuel pump last year o and its got rust growing around the brake light in the rear now and a ton of other crap. i love the truck but its getting to be annoying that it seems like every month i am laying under it doing something.
im just hoping it holds together to get to school this week and we can get it to my dads friends house. he has a full lift and every thing in the garage and a Bridgeport and lathe

drove it 2 miles today at 6:30am and its toast it stalled a few times i ended up leaving it in a parking lot and went back and the oil pan was filled with water and there was a big puddle under it. dads talking about doing a target motor in it and pulling the stuff we can off of it and cleaning them and putting it on the new block and dropping it in.
