Default hello, anyone??

I am new to the forum and like the information I
read, however no one has answered my question about a 5.7 LS1 into a 2002 truck. If anyone knows anybody that could help me I would like to talk to them. I would like to know if it will even start or will I need a program first thing. Or should I just stick to the 5.3.
I would also like to know if what kind of power increase porting heads is worth.

There is a couple of guys that have done this, but not on this board. There has also been a one or two 6.0 replacements out there. As far as programing goes, I don't think you will need any. A lot of f-body guys have changed their motors w/o programming. I think it would be a great mod and am considering doing that myself. I have an extra 4.8/5.3 long block. As far as heads go, I think they flow just fine so porting might not be worth it. Polishing, however should help nicely. While your at it, do a spring and valve job too. Also, you have two posts, asking the same general question and Joseph did leave one answer about a 6.0. But beating a lightning with a 5.7, won't happen w/o heads, cam, torque converter, and stndard bolt ons. With that, you should smoke one with a reg cab.

You can swap in an aluminum 5.7L LS1 into your truck no problem. Bolts right in, just keep your stock intake manifold. You should be able to get away with no computer tuning also, since we run on a mass-air setup which just senses more air coming in and adds more fuel to compensate. Things to consider:

5.7L LS1 motor has higher compression. You MUST run 92+ Octane at all times. This is specified in all LS1 f-body user manuals. Otherwise they tend to ping.

Your truck will weigh approximately 80 lbs less up front. Cant beat that!

Going from a stock 5.3L to a stock 5.7L LS1 will probably gain about 45 rwhp I'm guessing. Probably a good swap to consider.

Porting/polishing the heads without adding a camshaft is worth about 20-25 rwhp. With a cam they are worth about 70+ rwhp together. That is assuming you have headers already. Ported heads/cam on stock exhaust is probably worth about 50 rwhp.

Thank you for your help I am considering a cam
from comp. 206 and 212, 212 or 212 and 218, 214. This will give me good low end torque and still be perfect for the street. I can get the heads ported for only $300, flow bench readings and all, is the reason I am getting the heads ported.

I think I will shoot the juice to the motor, however just a small shot(75). I think I will try to run a Lightning with out the bottle. Headers, FIPK, exhaust, shift kit, programing, and gears (4.10).
