Anyone in here messing with head changes or just cam changes?

We just did a swap recently on an LQ9 with Dart 225's and put in an XER273HR Comp Cam. The results were excellent once bigger injectors were installed. The stock injectors were maxed out by 5200 with the new setup and the truck is still running the truck intake manifold, stock exhaust manifolds, and stock air intake.

what about getting the stock ones worked on? Is there much to gain there and what and where would you have them done?

There's a lot to be gained by porting and polishing stock heads.... doing valve jobs and upgrades are nice for gains too... just like was stated though, make sure your fuel system is up to the task.

Only some track testing, but that was done while the injectors were too small. It did however pick up 8mph of trap speed even with the injectors being too small.

I added Patriot Stage 2's with a 63cc chamber and 2.02/1.57 Ferrea's with patriot golds. I added a Vinci trucker cam and their 1.85 accelerated lift rockers. The injectors went to 60# since the 42 lb's were at 120% duty prior to all this. Add the Pacesetter LT's and I moved from 407 RWHP to 500RWHP ...

Did I mention the Vortech was on prior to the head/cam/injectors......

I had a set of hand P&P stock heads on my 5.3, they also were shaved .020 (I think) and 3 angle valve job. IT was a great compliment to the cam, I loved them. Heads are similar to headers in that you can only get so far till you get more air/fuel in and out of the engine. Heads, Cams, and Headers all work together and usually the sum is greater than the parts (ie you will probably get more power from the totat, than adding the three seperate)

If you are looking for a nice set of CNC'd heads I would suggest West Coast Cyl Head. Give Richard a call, he will talk to you about your plans and get you dialed in!
