Default headers on a 4.8

okay...so i searched and couldnt find what i was looking for. i bought a set of longtube lpp's to put on my 4.8...well after the fact i read on other forums that the primaries and collectors are too big(1 3/4 and 3 inch). what do yall think? i have thought about selling them and picking up some thorley tri-y's with 1 5/8 and 2.5 primaries. what other headers would yall recommend or just keep the lpp's?

oh the truck is a 2006 extended cab, with a mac intake, and it will be tuned come september. exhaust will be completely redone after headers.

From what I've heard/read is you lose more down low with larger primaries. I've heard tri-y is a good low-rpm-torque hdr. There are some hdr spnsors in the right column.

stick with the LPP's...chances are if you're gonna get into the modding game, you'll be ditching the 4.8 soon enough.

I agree

Once you have a tune done, it will bring some of it back, won't
be that noticeable... Not to mention you will gain more mid an top end, so it will make up for the slight low end loss..

I'm probably in the minority, but I say with a street driven truck go for the smaller primaries. 1-5/8" is just fine for these 4.8 and likely most of the 5.3 except for those pushing some major power. Hell, my 400hp sbc in my old '66 truck is huffing out of 1-5/8" headers and has a badass torque curve from 3000 all the way up to like 5500rpm or somewhere thereabouts.

Thorley Tri-Y's are a good design and can be had for about the same price, maybe $50 more, if you shop around as compared to "usual" headers that people get. Also, Hooker makes a set of Super Comp headers with 1-5/8" primaries but with 3" collectors. You can always reduce the collector size though.
