Default headers

How has everyone with headers got them to the muffler shop to get them welded? My exhaust shop is in the next town about 30 miles. Can I drive it this far and will it run alright or do I need to find someone to do a patch job on it till I can get it there?

I've done it two ways. First time, I drove it w/ open headers to a local shop. Not too far, but it was very loud. Second time, I drove to the shop early one morning before they opened. I installed the headers in the parking lot. When they opened, I was the first customer, then just had to pull it into the service bay.
