Header Hardware?!?!
#1
I got my obx headers and connection pipes today, but there was no hardware or gaskets in the box?! The picture on the ebay listing shows a baggy of hardware and new gaskets. I planned on using the factory manifold gaskets and bolts, so that's no big deal. But, what about the gaskets and hardware for all the connection pipes? Is there a crush-type gasket to seal between the collector and connection pipes in my factory exhaust system that I can reuse? What about hardware to bolt all the connection pipes together? Will the hardware from my stock system work? If not, can someone tell me what hardware I'll need? There's a hardware store right down the road that has everything and I really wanna get these headers on tommorrow!

It should come with donut gaskets for the collector to Y pipe connection. Obviously you didn't get that, but honestly it should seal just fine without it. Normally also the kit will come with the 6 bolts (3 per collector flange) that screw into the collector and then the nut that goes on them. I believe that a better system is to take a bolt and screw it in the opposite way when you connect the pipe up to the flange so that you dont need to use a nut whatsoever. Does that make sense?

THat's a crock of you know what. You probably paid $1200 for headers and got no hardware? It's acceptable with the OBX because you are getting a $1200 header set for $500. Also, who did you get the OBX from? Mine were packaged nicely and came with all the hardware/gaskets. Honestly you don't need them though. The kit does NOT come with the bolts that you need to bolt the Y pipe up to the stock catback though.

I purchased the headers from an eBay seller, but had them sent straight to Jet-Hot and that's where the hardware was lost. No biggie though, I can run right down the road and get donut gaskets and 6 bolts. And GMCtrk, I had planned on doing what you were talking about. Seemed easier to me!

Yes, the way they do it is stupid to me. Dynatech too. You get much more clamping force with just a bolt screwing in rather than tightening down a bolt. I was cranking one down and poof the threads stripped. Bolt now useless...
The only thing is I've heard the bolt holes in the collector flange have a weird thread that's a little hard to find at your typical hardware store

I reused my factory hardware and threw the pacesetter bolts in the trash. I did use the paper gaskets that came with them, should have reused the stock gaskets too. They have been on there over a year and I have checked to see if they were still tight from time to time, never have come loose and never a leak from the paper gaskets yet.
